I had the pleasure of having access to inside the ropes at the Irish Open in Fota with thanks to MIA Sports who supply Flightscope.
It was great to see the worlds best players up close and seeing how they use launch monitors to hone and measure their games. I was also lucky to see Rory McIlroy up close and see the power he has dispatching the golf ball over 300 yards at his ease. Highlight of the week was seeing Darren Clarke on the range who i played with in the last round of the Irish PGA Championship in Belvoir Park Belfast in 1995. He made wayne jnrs day by signing a glove and giving him 15 minute where he offered his advice on what he should practise. Darren told him if he had his time over again he would have dedicated 75% of his practice time to the short game rest assured wayne jnr had a new favourite golfer and when we arrived in Fernhill the first place he hit was the short game area.
